Paul Vander Mey is beginning his 9th year as part-time music director at Open Door Bible Church. Since
coming to ODBC, under Paul’s leadership the music ministry has seen
steady growth, improved organization and quality, and expansion of the
opportunities for musicians. Paul’s desire is to find ministry opportunities for musicians of all types and levels. As a result there are many musicians ministering and serving the Lord in a variety of ways at Open Door.
Paul Vander Mey is in his 12th year as professor of music and 8th year as Music Department Chairman at Calvary Bible College. He
teaches music courses in music theory, conducting, music history,
church music, music education, instrumental methods, church music for
pastors, fundamentals of music, and much more. Paul
directs music groups, such as: the Calvary Chorale, His Song music
team, Evidence summer music team, Calvary Masterworks Chorus, pit
orchestra for musicals, and various instrumental ensembles. He is also a euphonium soloist and brass instructor. In
addition to his teaching and directing responsibilities, Mr. Vander Mey
plans & leads music for chapel services, schedules concerts for
music groups, heads up the Calvary Bible College Fine Arts Series, travels with music groups and administrates all other aspects of the Music Department at Calvary.
Paul
received his music education degrees from Muskegon Community College,
Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, and Michigan State University.
He taught K-12 music for 2 years in a Christian day school in Lansing,
Michigan. For seventeen years Paul was professor of music
and music department chairman at Grand Rapids School of Bible and
Music, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Paul is a member of MENC, ACDA, MDASM and more. In addition to extensive teaching experience, Paul has a heart for church music. He
has been part-time music director at four churches for a combined total
of almost twenty-five years - two churches in Michigan and two in
Missouri. Paul has offered a number of seminars and workshops to help church musicians and churches with their music ministries.
Paul is married to Jann and they have three grown children, Aaron, Christy and Bethany. Their children Aaron and Bethany are married and living in the Belton area. Christy is married and living in Michigan raising a family with her husband Steve. Paul and Jann live in Belton, Missouri.
